And Then There Was David

And Then There Was David was my first officially published novel.
From conception to print it was a task that felt more surreal than anything else. The characters took on a life of their own at the very beginning and it was just left up to me to take dictation.
To say that this process was easy would be a lie.
It was intense and grueling. I spent hours alone in the dark staring at a computer hoping that my characters would do more than what they had been doing for the last 50,000 words.
Writing about loss and addiction were very touchy subject matters for me and I spent a lot of time making sure I handled them as delicately as possible.
I fell in love with David and Caroline as much as person can with two fictional characters, I cried when they cried and I felt their pain as well as their joy. It was an interesting period of growth for me as a writer and I really hope that message is conveyed when people read the story.

For the longest time I couldn't explain what the book was about. People would ask me and I had no answer for them. I could fully expose the inner workings of two very broken characters for the whole world to see, but I couldn't tell them just what exactly their story was about.
But I think I've got it down now.

And Then There Was David is about a man searching for more in the world, even if he doesn't want to admit it. His life had become one long sigh and he knows sooner or later, he's going to run out of breath.
Meeting Caroline causes his brain to think in a way it hasn't in awhile. He see himself in Caroline and that awakens a hope that wasn't there before.
And Then There Was David is not about adventure and passion and excitement. Its the quiet calm of surviving and the true nature of love.
